«[…] As far as our Anglican Communion is concerned, the Foreign Aid Society, about the year 1835, sent, as a missionary to Lisbon, the Rev. Dr. Gomez, an ex-canon (R. C.) of Malaga Cathedral, who had been received into the Church of England by the then Bishop of London. His work was, however, completely unnoticed by our Church. Some twenty years ago, his Society pensioned him off. Nevertheless, when I first came to Lisbon, in 1864, he still did some little work ; and I had the pleasure of meeting some fifty native Protestants at a service held in his house. These men were for years left untended.»[ref]Light & Truth: A Record of Church Reformation Work in Spain, Portugal, Mexico, and other Parts of Christendom. 1881. Nº1. p. 16.[/ref]
